Smell This Show: Still: Elemental
Join us to experience Still: Elemental using your eyes, ears, and…nose? Scent is a powerful tool to experience the world around us. Does the smell of rainwater affect your experience of Still’s massive canvases? Can the aroma of a crackling fire change your interpretation of the jagged, uprising shapes in a painting? There’s only one way to find out.
Smell, touch, think, look, and share ideas and focus on the exhibition’s focus on the primal elements. Encounter different scents and examine how scents can shift perspectives on what you see and feel about Still’s vibrant works. Learn about the science of scent including examining the role that the olfactory system plays in your visual perceptions in the moment and in memory. Scent, like the interpretation of Still’s paintings, is highly personal, drawing on individual experiences, memories, and associations. Multisensory learning has proven beneficial and incorporating multiple senses in learning experiences and has shown increased student engagement and retention of information.
