How do water, air, earth, and fire affect the condition of Still’s works? While news outlets typically highlight major examples of conservation issues—think the recent fire at Notre-Dame de Paris—in this talk, our conservators address the daily destructive effect the elements have on works of art. Inspired by Still: Elemental, this lecture with James Squires, chief conservator of paintings and Michal Mikesell, assistant conservator of paper, examines conservation needs within the Museum collections and the effects of natural elements on artworks.
