We invite CSM members to accompany Dean Sobel on his final trip through the galleries as Director, leading a virtual tour of The Late Works: Clyfford Still in Maryland, his last exhibition for the Clyfford Still Museum.
This exhibition will be the first to investigate Clyfford Still’s later works, both in painting and in drawing, following his move to rural Maryland in 1961. Still’s art continued to evolve in significant ways in his later career, as documented in this show from the early 1960s. Participants will see a general broadening of his palette and an increasing economy of imagery. Implied movement also became more vivid, as if his painted forms were being set in motion by invisible forces. New processes, such as roller brushes, and formats were also developed during this period. Dean will be broadcasting live from CSM’s galleries as your guide through the exhibition, which includes approximately 40 paintings and 30 works on paper.
Register in advance to join us online or over the phone at for the lecture from 6 p.m. MDT on September 24, 2020. Live captioning will be provided and registration is required.
