About Miwa and Kando
Miwa Steuben and Aidan Kando tend the flames of Japanese classical music and preserve the traditional arts of Koto and Shakuhachi by introducing them to audiences along the Colorado Rocky Mountains and beyond. They present music ranging from ancient to modern and sublime to profound.
Miwa is licensed on the Koto, Shamisen, and classical voice by master Hiraoka Yoko. Kando is licensed by Kurahashi Yodo II, head of the Mujuan shakuhachi lineage in Kyoto. Their performances offer a glimpse into the incredible depth of Japanese musical aesthetics, and reveal fundamental principles of beauty that transcend times and cultures.
Presented in collaboration with Swallow Hill Music.
