About the Sankyō Trio
The Sankyō Trio tends the flames of Japanese classical music and preserves the traditional arts of koto, shakuhachi, and shamisen by introducing them to audiences around the Rocky Mountain Region. Their repertoire includes ancient and modern pieces ranging from sublime to profound.
Miwa Sasaki Steuben and Mayumi Fugami are licensed on the koto, shamisen, and classical voice by master Yoko Hiraoka. Aidan Kandō is licensed by Kurahashi Yodo II, head of the Mujuan shakuhachi lineage in Kyoto. Sankyō Trio’s performances offer a glimpse into the incredible depth of Japanese musical aesthetics and reveal fundamental principles of beauty that transcend time and culture.
Presented in collaboration with Swallow Hill Music.
Admission: Free for CSM members, $10 adults, $8 seniors (65+), $6 teachers/college students/military, $1 Museums for All/Explorer Pass (with valid EBT card), always free for children ages 17 and under.
