Hands-On Art Studio

The Making Space

The Making Space is a hands-on creation studio located on the gallery level. Deepen your appreciation of the art on view through directed activities or experiment with a variety of art materials to try something new.

During Still in Sound, The Making Space will offer visitors two activities. The first invites visitors to create artwork inspired by the sounds they might hear at the Museum. The second activity challenges guests to build an instrument from a variety of materials to create their own sounds. The cozy corner encourages visitors to get comfortable and listen to music, including selections from Still’s album collection.

Responding to sounds

The featured sound artists in this exhibition used inspiration from Still’s paintings for their sonic interpretations. We invite you to create an artwork using these buttons that is inspired by the sounds you might hear. Our team captured each of these sounds from inside our Museum!

Making instruments

Many things in our environment make sounds. Still in Sound demonstrates how expressive sound can be in the creative and interpretive process. We invite you to respond by creating your own sounds!
