Position Summary
The Adult Program and Tour Manager oversees the design, organization, and execution of mission-based education programs for adult audiences. As a creative and strategic thinker and problem solver with a knowledge of art history, this position oversees activities ranging from gallery talks, lectures, and panel discussions, to artist demonstrations, performances, and hands-on learning experiences. Through meaningful community partnerships and well-executed programs, this position will deepen engagement, uplift community voice, and demonstrate the value of CSM as a vital community-centered museum. The Manager is eager to experiment with new formats to broaden the Museum audience while analyzing outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with the director of learning and engagement, director, curators, and community members, the Adult Program and Tour Manager will research and design public programs for adult audiences that align with the Museum’s mission, and inspire deeper engagement with CSM’s collections and exhibitions. Current evergreen programs include monthly Music in the Galleries and Stillness: Meditation in the Galleries, Summer Lawn Concerts, One Painting at a Time, Curatorial Talks, Institute Roundtable, and new programs developed for each special exhibition.
- Coordinate with Membership Manager to design programming for members to increase engagement with the Museum.
- Supervise and mentor part-time Tour and Program Specialist, providing effective management of tours, workshops, and programs.
- Lead planning meetings with internal and external partners to collaboratively generate and shape content for public programs, and target opportunities for others to bring their ideas and expertise to the table.
- Manages the logistics of virtual/hybrid/in-person public programs, including—but not limited to—assessing and fulfilling A/V needs, adding events to CSM calendars, drafting event forms, coordinating attendee surveys, creating intro and outro slide decks, sharing video/sound/images as needed, contracting photography and videography needs, and contracting accommodations providers.
- Works with the marketing team to set tour and program pricing, add tour programs to the website with descriptions and images, promote events, track registrations, and connect presenters and performers with marketing staff.
- Participate in the annual budgeting and manage the tour public programs budget throughout the year.
- Contribute to grant and sponsorship applications and reports as needed.
- Liaises with program presenters on paperwork, obtaining headshots, communicating day-of logistics (health forms, load-in instructions, virtual join access, etc.), scheduling Zoom run-throughs and any additional technology checks, producing presenter-requested images, and slide decks as needed.
- Participates in monthly Learning & Engagement team meetings, events meetings, and marketing meetings.
- Leads post-program evaluation and writes program recaps.
- Taps into networks for collaboration on program development.
- Stays up to date on public programs and tours at other museums locally and nationally and generates new ideas for CSM public programs.
- Coordinate with learning & engagement, special events, visitor experience, collections, and security teams on the execution of all on-site Museum programs.

Ability:

Education:
MA in Art History, Museum Studies, Museum Education or related field, or equivalent professional experience
Experience:
Five years of demonstrated experience in engaging adult audiences in a variety of learning experiences. Management experience preferred.

Physical Activities:
- Work is mostly sedentary or light work; however, the ability to lift or move 5-30 pounds is occasionally required to carry packages, chairs, and other program materials.
- May require some bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting during program set-up and tear-down.
