Work schedule: 8:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., Tuesday–Thursday; occasional Fridays, weekends, and evenings: 25–75 hours/month
Pay rate: $23.50/hr

Bilingual Adjunct Museum Educators support the Museum’s programming for school-age children and family audiences. Through their love of learning and inclusive teaching practices, museum educators sustain CSM’s innovative programs and contribute significantly to the Museum’s relationships with the community. Bilingual museum educators facilitate programs in English, Spanish, or in a bilingual format. Due to the part-time nature of the position, the ideal candidate is looking for a position that would support their professional development in museum education or seeking to supplement other work. Our adjunct museum educator team includes a diverse range of professionals including practicing artists, university students, retired classroom or museum educators, and caregivers.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Bilingual:
- Facilitate evergreen offerings (inStill Gallery Experiences for Schools, Art Crawl, Maker Morning) in English and in Spanish
- Collaborate with other bilingual educators to plan and discuss strategies for facilitation and to develop new offerings.
- Review and approval of Spanish-translated text as needed.
Program Facilitation:
- Collaboratively plan for and co-teach inStill Gallery Experiences for Schools in the Museum, in classrooms, and virtual experiences for grades PK-12.
- Collaboratively plan for and co-teach Art Crawl infant programs and Maker Morning family programs.
- Facilitate events and professional development with teachers.
- Support other Museum events and community-based programming.
- Utilize high-quality teaching moves and effective knowledge of facilitation to recognize and respond to children’s ever-changing interests and needs.
- Engage in regular self-reflection and collaborative debrief conversations to improve teaching and program quality.
- Demonstrate empathy and respect for children’s unique and diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences.
Participation in Professional Development:
- Participate in onboarding professional development to become familiar with the Museum’s lessons, teaching strategies, and content. Initial PD sessions will be scheduled based on availability.
- Participate in ongoing monthly professional development sessions on Tuesdays with CSM staff and other experts to build teaching skills and comfort in a variety of relevant topics including but not limited to art, equity, and accessibility.
Job Qualifications/Specifications:
Knowledge:
- Understanding of contemporary teaching and facilitation strategies and comfort teaching with children of all ages.
- Familiarity with child-led learning philosophies and principles
- Understanding of how one works best and collaborates with others
Skill:
- Spanish fluency and proficiency in engaging and connecting with students in Spanish (knowledge of technical art language not required). The ability to read and edit written Spanish is a plus.
- Use innovative and creative facilitation strategies to engage students and make them feel comfortable and safe in the Museum.
- Be organized and prepared yet flexible as plans can change quickly depending on student or participant needs.
- Be self-reflective and willing to adjust one’s practices based on feedback or new information.
- Be innovative and find new, creative ways to facilitate learning at the Museum.
- Be enthusiastic about inclusivity and promoting belonging in the Museum.
Ability:
- Ability to move about the Museum or a classroom to facilitate with students
- May occasionally lift and/or move items weighing 5-20 pounds.
Use of Google Suite including Gmail, Calendar, Meet, Docs, Slides, and Sheets - Required availability on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Occasional Friday, weekend and evening availability
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent teaching experience
- An advanced degree or teaching certification is a plus.
Experience:
- 2+ years experience working with children in formal or informal education settings
- Experience working with children ages birth through age 8 is a plus.
- Experience with art and art history is not required.
Working Conditions:
Work Environment: Museum educators work in various locations, including Museum spaces and galleries, classrooms or libraries, and online. They need to be able to travel to offsite locations within the 7-county SCFD area and are compensated for their travel time and mileage in excess of their commute to the Museum.
Physical Activities: Museum educators need to be able to move about the Museum or classrooms to engage with and confer with students. Preparation and facilitation may involve standing, sitting, and walking, in addition to bending, pushing, and pulling.
