“My painting is a life statement, not an autobiography.” —Clyfford Still
The Clyfford Still Catalogue Raisonné project aims to document all artworks by Clyfford Still in order to create a comprehensive, publicly accessible record of Still’s artistic output for the advancement of Still scholarship and a holistic understanding of twentieth-century American art.
Clyfford Still created more than 3,700 works of art in his 60-year career and kept the vast majority of his work hidden from public view in his own personal collection. At the time of his death in 1980, less than 5% of his total output was in public or private collections. The rest of his oeuvre was donated to the City and County of Denver to be permanently maintained and cared for by the Clyfford Still Museum.
Now, the Clyfford Still Museum seeks to confirm records of known works that left Still’s collection by inviting collectors, galleries, auction houses, and other institutions to participate in our broadening awareness of Still’s artistic contributions.
