Explore the concept of rest through a tour of the galleries led by the Museum’s tour and program Specialist, Kenda Keenan.

PH-247, 1951, affectionately nicknamed Big Blue, was on display for over a decade before being placed in storage. Because the painting is too large to store stretched (or even to fit in our freight elevator!), it was unstretched and rolled up before being moved to an offsite storage facility. The current exhibition Held Impermanence curator Katherine Simóne Reynolds documented the rolling through photography.

Along with documenting the event, Reynolds also documented her own rest during this time period and included these images with those of the rolling. Using all of these images, we will discuss what it means for a painting and for a person to rest.

This event is offered as part of the Month of Photography, organized by the Colorado Photographic Arts Center.

This program is $5 for the public and free for CSM members. Registration is required, and space is limited.
