Members, join us for a conservation conversation with James Squires, Chief Conservator at the Clyfford Still Museum.

Held Impermanence, guest curated by Katherine Simóne Reynolds, asks us to grapple with multiple questions posed by Clyfford Still’s work and the Museum. In curating this exhibition, Reynolds posed one central question: Can a painting die? We invite you to consider the philosophical answers to this question and the scientific answer from the collections care and conservation perspective.

This program will include a talk from James Squires, which provides the context for this question. It will include an overview of what it takes to be a conservator, the history of conservation at the Still, how conservation collaborates with curatorial initiatives, and a sneak peek at some conservation projects in the works. You will also have a chance to see the galleries in Held Impermanence that directly address Reynolds’ central question (and Squires’ answers) and take a peek behind the scenes at the Museum’s conservation lab.

Bring your conservation questions and prepare for a unique conservation on the nature of art, preservation, and Clyfford Still’s legacy.

This program is limited to members and their guests. Space is limited, and registration is required.
