inStill for All was developed alongside students and teachers in a K-2 multi-intensive autism classroom and piloted with over 140 children and youth with disabilities in K-12. Museum educators foster a sense of belonging in museum spaces and cultivate a celebratory, inclusive sense of community. This program includes longer times in the galleries, slower transitions, smaller student-to-educator ratios, multi-sensory provocations that allow for multiple points of entry, and is responsive to the needs of every individual student in the moment. We are dedicated to providing experiences that accommodate the needs and strengths of everyone participating. We will work closely with your group.
What will we do?
Pre-Visit Experiences
Teacher Walkthrough:
Join CSM staff for a walkthrough of the Museum to discuss your goals, teaching approach, and student needs.
Interactive Introductory Book:
Prepare for your visit as a class by learning more about the educators and the Museum. Follow along with this book to learn more about Clyfford Still, look closely at his artwork, and start expressing yourself.
Field Trip Experience (1 hour and 15 minutes)
Welcome and Community Building:
Meet Museum Educators and be welcomed into the Museum. Build community with educators and each other.
Looking Closely
Utilize visual thinking strategies to look closely, listen to others’ perspectives, and develop your own interpretation of the work of Clyfford Still.
Responding Creatively
Play and create with a variety of materials.
Art-making Experience
Investigating Paint, Colors & Tools:
Experiment with different types of art-making materials, colors, and tools while painting on your own canvas.
Explore Clay and Texture:
Play and experiment with a variety of sculpting materials. Investigate and create with textures you are drawn to.
Experimenting with Sound:
Share the joy of responding to abstract art through music. Play with a variety of instruments to cultivate self-expression and wonder.
