This Día del Niño and throughout April, the Clyfford Still Museum will share line-inspired activities you can do from home using materials you already have!
Important Lines
Choose an image or photograph to inspire your own drawing and make an artwork out of just the lines.
Materials Needed:
- Paper
- Your favorite coloring and drawing supplies
- Inspiration image from artwork, photos, newspaper or magazines, or online
- Look around your home or through our online collection for an image (an artwork, a family photo, an ad from a magazine, etc.) that uses lines.
- Place the image or photograph in front of you and choose the most important lines from the image. With a writing utensil and paper, draw the lines that you see in the art and also how you want them to be. (For example, if I am looking at a photograph of a tree, the trunk could be the most important line and I might choose to make it a different shape or make only a few of the branches really thick to stand out. I could also draw a tree made up of different shapes and some branches that are only lines.)
- Focus on the shapes along with the lines in the image. What kinds of shapes are you noticing? Are these shapes anything that you are familiar with? Maybe you would like to make a new shape. Give it a try with your various writing tools and see what you come up with. You can do this by yourself or you can collaborate with a friend or family member.
- Which piece do you like better? Do you prefer the image that you started with or ended with?
Líneas Importantes
Elige una imagen o fotografía para inspirar tu propio dibujo y haz una obra de arte únicamente con las líneas.
Materiales necesarios:

- Imagen de inspiración de obras de arte, fotos, periódicos o revistas, o en línea
- Busca arte con líneas alrededor de tu casa o en nuestra colección online.
- Sitúa la imagen o fotografía frente a ti y selecciona las líneas más importantes de la imagen. Utilizando un instrumento para escribir y un papel, dibuja las líneas que percibes en la obra y también como quieres que sean. (Por ejemplo, si estoy viendo una fotografía de un árbol, el tronco podría ser la línea más importante y podría elegir darle una forma diferente o hacer que sólo algunas de las ramas sean muy gruesas para que destaquen. Incluso podría dibujar un árbol con diferentes formas y algunas ramas que sean sólo líneas)
- Concéntrate en las formas que aparecen junto a las líneas en la imagen. ¿Qué tipo de formas observas? ¿Estas formas son algo con lo que estás familiarizado? Puede que quieras crear una nueva forma. Intenta hacerlo con las herramientas de escritura que tienes a tu disposición y comprueba lo que se te ocurre. Lo puedes hacer tú solo o en colaboración con un amigo o familiar.
- ¿Cuál obra te gusta más? ¿Prefieres la imagen con la que comenzaste o con la que terminaste?
