Clyfford Still Museum to temporarily close to limit spread of COVID-19

Denver, CO – March 13, 2020 – In response to concerns around limiting the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Clyfford Still Museum made the decision to close the Museum to the public temporarily effective at 8 p.m. on March 13, 2020 until further notice.

“Our primary concern is for the safety and well-being of our staff, volunteers, and visitors,” said a statement by the Museum. “As the stewards of a public art collection, we are proud to help protect our community.”

During the temporary closure, the Museum encourages visitors to experience Clyfford Still’s vibrant works online and explore more than 2,500 pieces in the online collection or peruse the works on paper exhibition catalog. The CSM also encourages patrons to explore a collection highlights exhibition at the Museum through an interactive 360 degree virtual tour through Google Arts & Culture.

The Museum will start offering virtual programs soon and will post recordings afterwards on its social media channels.

“Thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and support during these challenging times,” the Museum added in a statement.  “We hope to reschedule many of the postponed events and programs later this year and we look forward to welcoming you back in the galleries soon.”

About the Clyfford Still Museum

Designed by Allied Works Architecture to display the revolutionary art of a modern master, the Clyfford Still Museum opened in November 2011 in Denver’s burgeoning Golden Triangle Creative District.  Considered one of the most important and mysterious painters of the 20th century, Clyfford Still (1904-1980) was among the first generation of abstract expressionist artists who developed a new and powerful approach to painting in the years during and immediately after World War II.  The Museum’s collection represents 95% of the artist’s lifetime output.  As the steward of Still’s art and legacy, the Museum’s mission is to preserve, exhibit, study, and foster engagement with its unique collections; generate outstanding exhibitions, scholarly research, educational and other cross-disciplinary programs that broaden the definition of a “single-artist” museum; and be a gathering place for the exploration of innovation and individual artistic endeavor.  Connect with the Clyfford Still Museum on FacebookTwitterInstagram or at clyffordstillmuseum.org.
