Denver, CO – September 18, 2026 – The Clyfford Still Museum (CSM) plans to move forward with transforming the building at 1247 Bannock Street into a multi-use gathering space for Museum programs and events.
The Clyfford Still Museum Foundation purchased the property in 2018, and Cap City Tavern rented the space until July 2025. The Museum will spend the next several months securing permits and renovating the building into a flexible space for its programs and operations. Maria Cole of Studio Cole is leading the design work.
“Over the last 15 years, the Clyfford Still Museum has mounted extraordinary exhibitions and welcomed visitors of all ages to our galleries,” said Joyce Tsai, CSM director. “We look forward to inviting the public to 1247 Bannock, where we are planning a renovation to meet the growing demand for our programs. Our galleries at the Museum remain the exclusive home to Still’s art. Across the street, we will experiment with, pilot, and scale programs to meet rising interest in what we offer. The space will enable us to deepen community relationships and will also serve as the dedicated site for the Institute Residential Fellowship program in the future.”
“We are proud to be a leader in the growing vibrancy of the Golden Triangle Creative District,” said Anna Boatwright, CSM deputy director & COO. “This move deepens our commitment to the neighborhood and reflects our belief in the future of Downtown Denver. We want this to remain a place where people gather, explore, and connect, and we look forward to contributing to the neighborhood’s growth for years to come.”
The Museum team will release more detailed plans for 1247 Bannock Street once they become available.
