Clyfford Still and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery

Long before the Clyfford Still Museum (CSM) opened in Denver in 2011, there was already a substantial, isolated body of work by Clyfford Still on public display—in Buffalo, New York, at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. In this five-minute video produced for the CSM’s 2014 exhibition “1959: The Albright-Knox Art Gallery Exhibition Recreated,” former Albright-Knox Art Gallery Director Louis Grachos, Albright-Knox Chief Curator Douglas Dreishpoon, and CSM Director Dean Sobel discuss how this reclusive artist came to donate 31 paintings to the Albright-Knox in 1964.
