Clyfford Still Museum announces temporary closure

In accordance with new Red Level COVID rating announced by city government and health officials, the Clyfford Still Museum announced Thursday that it will temporarily close to the public effective at 5 p.m. MST on Friday, November 20. The closure will last for at least one month.

“Our primary concern continues to be the safety and well-being of our staff and visitors,” said a statement by the Museum. “As the stewards of a public art collection, we are proud to help protect our community.”

During the temporary closure, the Museum encourages visitors to participate in free virtual programs including Grandparents Are Great Program: Gift-Giving on December 10 and Music in the Galleries featuring Altius Quartet on December 13. Recordings of past virtual programs and additional bonus content are also available on CSM’s website and social media channels.

The Museum offers other ways to experience Clyfford Still’s art online including exploring The Late Works and The Early Years exhibitions in a virtual space using the same software as CSM’s curators, Virtual Gallerie. Additionally, visitors can view more than 2,500 of Still’s works in the online collection.

About the Clyfford Still Museum
Designed by Allied Works Architecture to display the revolutionary art of one of the 20th century’s greatest artists, the Clyfford Still Museum opened in November 2011 in Denver’s Golden Triangle Creative District. Considered one of the most important and mysterious painters of the 20th century, Clyfford Still (1904-1980) was among the first generation of abstract expressionist artists who developed a new and powerful approach to painting in the years during and immediately after World War II. The Museum’s collection represents 95% of the artist’s lifetime output. As the steward of Still’s art and legacy, the Museum’s mission is to preserve, exhibit, study, and foster engagement with its unique collections; generate outstanding exhibitions, scholarly research, educational and other cross-disciplinary programs that broaden the definition of a “single-artist” museum; and be a gathering place for the exploration of innovation and individual artistic endeavor. Connect with the Clyfford Still Museum on FacebookTwitterInstagram or at clyffordstillmuseum.org.
