Clyfford Still Museum celebrates tenth anniversary with community events

Denver, CO – November 1, 2021  – The Clyfford Still Museum (CSM) will celebrate its tenth anniversary beginning with a keynote talk from Director Joyce Tsai, Ph.D., free day, and the kickoff of a voting platform for a community-curated exhibition opening next year. Additional community events will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Museum will host Embodying Care: A Keynote on the past, present, and future of the Clyfford Still Museum with Dr. Joyce Tsai at 6:30 p.m. on November 17 at the Sharp Auditorium at the Denver Art Museum. Tsai’s first keynote as director celebrates the Museum’s tenth anniversary by exploring how it has embodied care as part of its mission. She will reflect on the evolving sense of what museums enable by looking forward to the next decade. The program will include in-person and online American Sign Language interpretation and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART). Registration is required to attend the program in person, and seating is limited. The Museum will also livestream the keynote on its YouTube channel.

CSM will celebrate its tenth birthday with a Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) Free Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 18. Walk-ins are welcome, and reservations are not required. Free Day visitors will explore the exhibition, A Decade of Discovery: Clyfford Still in Denver, which opened in mid-October. The show revisits the Museum’s inaugural exhibition and highlights some of the most compelling revelations CSM has made about the collection since it opened in 2011. In appreciation of the citizens who support the SCFD and in the spirit of community engagement, the Museum offers free admission on select days throughout the year.

Kicking off on Election Day, November 2, the Clyfford Still Museum will open an online voting platform where people from Colorado and beyond can choose which Clyfford Still artworks they want to see in the upcoming exhibition, You Select: A Community-Curated Exhibition. The exhibition will be on view from August 12, 2022–February 12, 2023 (subject to change).

The Museum will offer community-centered public programs and exhibitions to celebrate its tenth anniversary from November 2021 to November 2022.

About the Clyfford Still Museum
Designed by Allied Works Architecture to display the revolutionary art of one of the 20th century’s greatest artists, the Clyfford Still Museum opened in November 2011 in Denver’s Golden Triangle Creative District. Considered one of the most important and mysterious painters of the 20th century, Clyfford Still (1904-1980) was among the first generation of abstract expressionist artists who developed a new and powerful approach to painting in the years during and immediately after World War II. The Museum’s collection represents more than 93% of the artist’s lifetime output. As the steward of Still’s art and legacy, the Museum’s mission is to preserve, exhibit, study, and foster engagement with its unique collections; generate outstanding exhibitions, scholarly research, educational and other cross-disciplinary programs that broaden the definition of a “single-artist” museum; and be a gathering place for the exploration of innovation and individual artistic endeavor. Connect with the Clyfford Still Museum on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or at clyffordstillmuseum.org.
