The start of this year was marked by the outbreak of COVID-19 and now we are grasping towards a reckoning with systemic racism that has plagued the United States since its founding. Clyfford Still continued to create through multiple periods of crisis during his lifetime: the 1918 Flu Pandemic, the Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War and his own personal battle with cancer. Join CSM educators on a virtual tour of our galleries to share in a discussion in which we placed Still’s work in this historical context of crisis, and considered the manifestations of crisis in the work of the artist. This is a recording from a virtual tour on July 14, 2020.
