This Día del Niño and throughout April, the Clyfford Still Museum will share line-inspired activities you can do from home using materials you already have!
Poetic Lines
Choose an image and respond creatively with a poem. (Do this alongside your child or act as notetaker to gather their thoughts.)
Materials Needed:
- Paper
- Your favorite coloring and drawing supplies
- Artwork from Clyfford Still Online
- Make a selection of an image from Clyfford Still Online that uses lines.
Take notes on your child’s observations. Ask them:- What’s going on in this picture?
- What are you noticing?
- Where does your eye go first?
- Do you like this image? Why or why not?
- After you have a list of observations, circle your favorite ones.
- Now, write a poem about the line you made observations on.
- You can try writing a lune which is arranged in three lines with words that have 3, then 5, and then 3 words. Example:
A yellow line
stretches across the black canvas
leading me home

- Toma nota de los comentarios de tu hijo. Pregúntale lo siguiente:
- ¿Qué está sucediendo en esta foto?
- ¿Qué observas?
- ¿Hacia dónde se dirige tu mirada primero?
- ¿Esta imagen te gusta? ¿Por qué o por qué no?
- Una vez que tengas una lista de comentarios, rodea con un círculo los que más te gusten.
- Ahora, escribe un poema sobre la línea que hayas comentado.
- Puede tratar de escribir una melodía compuesta de tres líneas con palabras que tengan 3, luego 5 y luego 3 palabras. Por ejemplo:
Una línea amarilla
a lo largo del lienzo
guiándome a casa
