Denver, CO – July 20, 2026 – The Clyfford Still Museum will host a full-day symposium to showcase projects by each Institute Residential Fellow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, July 27, at the Still. Registration is free and open to the public. Attendees may attend part or all of the program.
The third cohort of Institute Fellows began their residencies on July 1. The Clyfford Still Museum Institute Residential Fellowship focuses on three pillars of study: art, education, and social enterprise. The 2026 Fellows include: Lamees Rahman and Martha Tuttle in Studio Art; Paul E. Nelson in Art Writing; Jon M. Wargo, Ph.D., in Early Childhood Education; and Kathryn Graddy and Michael White in Social Enterprise.
The symposium will begin with presentations by the Art Pillar Fellows from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.:
- Still in Cascadia by Paul Nelson
- Terrains: Exploring Digital Abstraction and Material Translation through the work of Clyfford Still by Lamees Rahman
- Trains on Plains: Alberta Works from the 20s and 30s by Martha Tuttle
After a brief break, the program continues with presentations by the Social Enterprise Pillar Fellows from 1:30 to 3 p.m.:
- Quantifying Recognition: Clyfford Still and the Abstract Expressionists by Kathryn Graddy
- “Awe”-some Museums: Leveraging Research on Emotion to Propel Visitor Engagement and Donation by Michael White
The final presentation features the Fellow in the Early Childhood Pillar from 3:15 to 4 p.m.:
- Sounds like Still: On Young Children Experimenting with Sound Art by Jon Wargo
The Museum staff will lead a final discussion at 4 p.m., and a free reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Institute Residential Fellowship serves as the research arm of the Museum, encouraging innovation that draws on Clyfford Still’s work and legacy in art, scholarship, and practice. The Program invites exceptional individuals to Denver to pursue independent projects that benefit from deep study of the Museum’s collection, staff expertise, and engagement with Still’s vibrant creative ecosystem.
