Día del Niño Activity: Lines Outside

This Día del Niño and throughout April, the Clyfford Still Museum will share line-inspired activities you can do from home using materials you already have!

Lines Outside

Choose a line from something that you see outside and re-imagine the line using found objects and materials that you find outside.

Materials Needed:

  • Paper
  • Your favorite coloring and drawing supplies
  • Safe outdoor space
        1. Head outside and spend a few minutes looking up at the sky, all around and at the ground beneath you. Look at the trees and at the buildings.
        2. Find a line that you think is interesting. Now, before you re-imagine this line ask yourself these questions:
          •   How would you describe the line?
          •   How does the line make you feel?
          •   Is your line moving? If not, how do you think it might move?
          •   Is your line soft or hard, straight or curvy?
        3. Thinking about these characteristics of your line, see what you can find in nature to create a similar line. Maybe you use grass, twigs, pinecones, feathers, even dirt!
        4. After you gather your materials to work with, find a safe place to sit to make your line.

        Selecciona una línea a partir de algo que hayas visto en el exterior e imagina de nuevo la línea utilizando objetos y materiales encontrados.

        Materiales necesarios:

        • Papel
        • Tus materiales preferidos para dibujar o colorear
        • Espacio seguro al aire libre
        1. Sal al exterior y tómate unos minutos para observar el cielo, todo lo que te rodea, y el suelo que tienes debajo. Mira los árboles y los edificios.
        2. Encuentra una línea que te parezca interesante. Ahora, antes de volver a imaginar esta línea pregúntate lo siguiente:
          •   ¿Cómo describirías la línea?
          •   ¿Cómo te hace sentir la línea?
          •   ¿La línea se mueve? Si no, ¿cómo crees que se movería?
          •   ¿Tu línea es suave o dura, recta o curvada?
        3. Tras reflexionar sobre las características de tu línea, fíjate en lo que puedes encontrar en la naturaleza para crear una línea similar. Puedes utilizar césped, ramitas, piñas, plumas, o ¡incluso tierra!
          Después de reunir los materiales para trabajar, busca un lugar seguro para sentarte a hacer tu línea.
