Clyfford Still Museum expands inStill School Experiences to include pre-kindergarten through 12th grade

Denver, CO – August 22, 2024 – This fall, the Clyfford Still Museum (CSM) will pilot a new pre-kindergarten lesson offering along with its existing inStill School Experiences for kindergarten through 12th-grade students.

inStill Gallery Experiences at the Museum, inStill To Go in the classroom, and inStill Live virtual experiences are available Tuesdays through Fridays. Bilingual educators provide Spanish support and instruction. Students who participate receive a sketchbook and a pass to return with their families for free. For inStill at the Museum or in the classroom, full scholarships are available for schools that receive Title 1 or Head Start funding, partial scholarships are available for all schools, and bus funding is available. inStill Live virtual experiences are free for all students and teachers.

During the new multi-part Paint and Play, pre-kindergarten students will participate in a lesson designed to spark wonder and inspire joy in the classroom and/or at the Museum. In Paint and Play, children will play to discover materials and express their feelings. Eleven preschool teachers at seven schools and ECE centers worked with CSM educators to develop the experience.

In the lesson You Are an Artist!, kindergarten through fifth-grade students explore how they can be artists. The young artists will explore their imaginations, look closely at Clyfford Still’s art, and express their ideas. Each student will receive a sketchbook to record their observations and ideas.

In Art and Ideas, students in grades 6-12 will explore the various ways artists communicate ideas and how viewers interpret them. Teachers and students can choose from a menu of mini-workshops that invite them to develop and share interpretations of Still’s art, uncover historical context, reflect on their identities and communities, and create their own artistic responses.

Schools and teachers may request inStill School Experiences online at clyffordstillmuseum.org/instill.

Teachers, administrators, and school support staff interested in learning more about inStill may attend the Free Teacher Open House from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on September 12 at the Museum. Registration is required.

About the Clyfford Still Museum
Designed by Allied Works Architecture to display the art of one of the 20th century’s greatest artists, the Clyfford Still Museum opened in November 2011 in Denver’s Golden Triangle Creative District. Considered one of the most important and mysterious painters of the 20th century, Clyfford Still (1904-1980) was among the first generation of abstract expressionist artists who developed a new and powerful approach to painting in the years during and immediately after World War II. The Museum’s collection represents more than 93% of the artist’s lifetime output. As the steward of Still’s art and legacy, the Museum’s mission is to preserve, exhibit, study, and foster engagement with its unique collections; generate outstanding exhibitions, scholarly research, educational and other cross-disciplinary programs that broaden the definition of a “single-artist” museum; and be a gathering place for the exploration of innovation and individual artistic endeavor. Connect with the Clyfford Still Museum on FacebookTwitterInstagram, TikTokYouTube, or at clyffordstillmuseum.org.
