Clyfford Still Museum seeks short films from young filmmakers to complement Awful Bigness exhibition

Denver, CO – March 6, 2023 – The Clyfford Still Museum (CSM) and Denver Film seek short films by young filmmakers ages 18 and under to complement CSM’s new exhibition Awful Bigness. Entries should be family-friendly and may use traditional filmmaking techniques, stop motion, digital animation, or abstract approaches to represent the concept of “bigness.”

Submissions will be juried by Denver Film and Clyfford Still Museum staff for consideration to be shown on the big screen at Sie FilmCenter at 6:30 p.m. on May 15 during film/Still: Kids on the BIG Screen. During the exhibition run, the Museum may also show submissions on a video screen in the hands-on art studio The Making Space.

Film jurors include Keith Garcia, artistic director, Sie FilmCenter; Katie Watson-Best, artist and CSM digital media producer; and Nicole Cromartie, CSM director of learning and engagement. Submission will be judged based on creativity and connection to the theme.

Submission Details

Young filmmakers must submit films by April 1 via the online submission form. Films must be one minute or less and uploaded as .mp4 or .mov files. If using music, the films must use original, royalty-free, public domain, or open-source music. About the Clyfford Still Museum

Designed by Allied Works Architecture to display the revolutionary art of one of the 20th century’s greatest artists, the Clyfford Still Museum opened in November 2011 in Denver’s Golden Triangle Creative District. Considered one of the most important and mysterious painters of the 20th century, Clyfford Still (1904-1980) was among the first generation of abstract expressionist artists who developed a new and powerful approach to painting in the years during and immediately after World War II. The Museum’s collection represents more than 93% of the artist’s lifetime output. As the steward of Still’s art and legacy, the Museum’s mission is to preserve, exhibit, study, and foster engagement with its unique collections; generate outstanding exhibitions, scholarly research, educational and other cross-disciplinary programs that broaden the definition of a “single-artist” museum; and be a gathering place for the exploration of innovation and individual artistic endeavor. Connect with the Clyfford Still Museum on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, or at clyffordstillmuseum.org.
